About the Blackwell St Artists

The Blackwell Street Center for the Arts (BSCA) celebrated its 30th year in 2013!

BSCA was founded in 1983 in Dover, New Jersey, as a cooperative gallery by a group of local artists interested in establishing a permanent space in which to exhibit their work. In 1989, BSCA became a non-profit corporation with the additional aim of providing education and information on fine arts to the public in the form of lectures, seminars, workshops and comunity programs.

BSCA has sponsored Hispanic and Irish Art exhibits; pariticipated in First Night morris activities in Morristown on New Year's Eve; and stages and annual student art show for Morris area high school students. The Annual High School Student Arts Show provides a venue for Morris County's student talents in the fine arts. Our 15th annual event, celebrated in 2003, attracted over 600 entries!

BSCA has received grants from the Dodge Foundation, Casio Corporation and the Arts Council of the Morris Area.

In 1996, Blackwell St. Center for the Arts became a "cyber gallery" on the internet under the website name, "Blackwell St. Artists." The group continues to show in public places and has mounted exhibits at Lever House Gallery (New York City), Johnson & Johnson, Nabisco, and the Cork Gallery (NYC), to name just a few prominent examples. Member artists work in a variety of media and styles. All membership applications are juried by the current members.

Adding new members is essential to keep the Blackwell Street Center for the Arts evolving and growing. Come and work with us to revitalize fine arts in NJ - YOUR energies enhance our group's efforts in the Morris County area! New techniques, styles and artistic perspectives add to the vitality of the group. To this end, interested artists from the New Jersey area are always invited to submit slides or originals of their work for friendly and open consideration by the credentials committee.
